Final AutoX of the Season

9/23/2007

David Press

Come on out to the Tire Rack to enjoy the last autox of the season! This event is open to all street legal and safe vehicles.

SIGN UP NOW!

Costs: Members - $25 Non Members - $35 Helmet Rental - $5 WALK ON FEE - $5 ALL enterants that do NOT register online will be subject to a $5 walk on fee this year! Online regisration DRAMATICALLY speeds up the morning setup. Also, we may begin capping events this year, so signing up online ensures you a spot. So sign up now!

Times 8:00 - 9:00am - Tech Inspection and Registration

8:45 - 9:00am - Autox Ambassador Program

9:00 - 9:15am - Mandatory Driver's Meeting

9:15am - First Car Out

You can rent a helmet from the club or use your own (must be Snell95 or better)

The Autox Ambassador Program is a designed to help people new to the world of Autoxing get comfortable, learn a few tricks, and get their questions answered. It is a free program that will likely improve your times!

There are prizes for Class winners, and points are kept track of over the entire season. The best person in each class for the entire year wins even better prizes!

What do you need to bring?

Your car needs to be empty of all things in order to run, so a plastic bin of some kind to hold all your stuff would be a good idea. If it has a lid, you will be much happier if it begins to rain.

It is strongly suggested that you ensure there is enough air in your tires. At the Tire Rack there is a air hose there, but you still may want to check before you arrive. Many people run between 35-40psi.

Wear comfortable clothing and sunblock or a jacket as needed by the weather. Everyone has to work as well as run, so you will be standing outside for a one third of your time there. You don't want to go home sunburnt!

A small toolkit and whatever vital fluids you may need is not a bad idea. Chances are you won't need them, but it never hurts to be prepared.

A good attitude and a willingness to have a good time!

After the AutoX Event we will have our AutoX Banquet where all class trophies will be awarded.

Blackhawk Farms Registration is now OPEN

7/12/2007

David Press

It's that time of year again, The Annual Blackhawk Farms ACCCC Driver's School and Safety Seminar is right around the corner. The event will be held at the beautiful Blackhawk Farms Raceway (www.blackhawkfarms.com) in South Beloit, Illinois on August 10th, 11th, & 12th.

Registration is now CLOSED! I will maintain a wait list for this event. Please contact me directly if you want to be placed on the list!

On Friday the 10th, the Club will be hosting an advanced Driver's day for our advanced drivers and an Instructor Clinic those experienced drivers who aspire to become club instructors. The event will only be open to a limited number of cars and given the inquiries so far we expect to sell out quickly so sign up right away! Experienced Audi members and potential instructors need to contact Mike Witbrod for eligibility and approval.

What is an Advanced Driver Day and who should consider attending?

Advanced drivers are typically Club Instructors or very long time members with significant track experience. These individuals are very familiar with the Clubs' philosophies and practices - especially when it comes to safety and courtesy on the track. The day will consist of sessions alternating between the Advanced Drivers and the Instructor Clinic participants.

What is an Instructor Clinic and who should consider attending?
(SOLD OUT)

Instructor Clinics are for advanced drivers who would like to become more involved in the clubs by training to become Club Instructors. The clinic consists of both classroom and on-track activities. In the classroom, senior instructors will discuss some of the basics about being an instructor. The focus is on safety and some 'how-to' tips about relating to, and teaching, different types of students with different skill sets. Instructors-in-training will learn how to coordinate and critique the student exercises during the driving schools. The group will then be getting into the cars for some one-on-one coaching and student / instructor role-playing.

The Instructor Clinics give the club an opportunity to get to know the potential instructors. The club realizes that it is important to groom the next generation of instructors and part of the 'getting to know you' process is to evaluate skills and help to identify areas of development. Attendance at an Instructor Clinic does not automatically qualify you to be an instructor at future events.

There will be a very limited number of Instructor Clinic spots available this year. Potential participants are encouraged to forward a Driver?s Resume or driving history to Mike Witbrod for consideration.

For those who have never attended our Driver's Schools I can assure you that you will not be disappointed. You will be surrounded by fellow Audi enthusiasts who share the same passion for driving as you do. Participants will attend a classroom session before heading to the cars for a series of challenging exercises that will help to demonstrate the abilities of your car. After the exercises the students will be paired with our club instructors where they will receive one on one instruction and "on track" coaching for the remainder of the weekend.

Blackhawk is an entire weekend of activity. Here is a quick overview of what you can expect:

Friday Advanced Drivers Day & Instructor Clinic ? Details and schedule to be published to participants upon approval.

Friday evening: All participants should consider Friday evening activities MANDATORY. The Club will not guarantee timely participation in the Saturday activities for anyone arriving on Saturday morning.

Arrival and registration Car tech check (basic safety inspection) Drivers meeting - This is where you get all the details for the weekend activities / run groups. Meet your instructor Head back to hotel or campsite (you can camp right at the track)

Saturday:

Drivers meeting Exercises - we do three different driving exercises designed to help students learn basic car dynamics and extreme situation control. Lapping sessions begin - Instructors on track and students in classroom. Lunch (Blackhawk has a pretty good concession stand - they do breakfast also) Lapping all afternoon. This is a one on one in your car with your instructor. He / she will evaluate your driving and work with you at a pace that you are both comfortable with. During these lapping sessions you will only be on the track with others in your run group who have similar experience. The focus is on safety, driving the correct line, proper braking, and learning how the car reacts in different situations. Banquet - We supply the evening meal and beverages (always a good time).

Sunday:

Drivers meeting Lapping all day with your run group / instructor. This is a continuation of Saturday so you will be able to continue to work on the skills learned on Saturday and move on to more advanced techniques.

Our instructors will tailor the instruction to your individual needs. If you feel comfortable with the basics the instructor may choose to focus on more advanced driving techniques.

When you are not on the track you will have the opportunity to meet new friends and catch up with old ones. If at any time you have questions just ask one of the event coordinators or any of the instructors. That's what we're here for!

Please note the the Friday evening Driver's Meeting and Tech Check are mandatory!

The Audi Club Chicago Chapter returns once again to the fun and challenging Autobahn Country Club, North Track in nearby, and scenic Joliet, Illinois.

The North Track has 1.46 miles of well-maintained track surface to challenge even the most experienced drivers. For more track information and location information, please see the Autobahn Country Club website at: Autobahn Country Club

This will be an Advanced Driver?s Day and will not be like a typical Club Driving School, as there will be no classroom activity. There will be no on-track exercises. It is assumed that all participants have sufficient experience and can safely comport themselves on track in an appropriate manner. As such, you must have a MINIMUM of four Audi Club Driving Schools or equivalent experience level.

All applications must be approved in advance by the Event Master. You will be required to list your most recent four Audi Club Driving Schools on your application.

If your experience is outside the Audi Club, you must submit a detailed driving resume with verifiable references (e-mail preferred).

Who should attend? The Autobahn Country Club Advanced Driver?s Day is for experienced participants that desire more on-track time with which to hone their skills. If you have been to one or two North Track events and want to gain a better knowledge of this track, this event is for you. This event is designed as an intensive exposure to the North track and it is likely that we will have several hours of on-track time available to each participant.

Again a minimum of FOUR Audi Club Driving Schools is required for participation.

What to expect? There will be a morning tech inspection and a brief driver?s meeting and then the track is open for 20-25 minute sessions. Drivers will be grouped by previous experience level. Instructors will be driving in all run groups to observe participants on track. Like every other Audi Club event, expect the camaraderie of your fellow Audi enthusiasts. This is a ?no-frills? event. This facility is quite costly to rent, and we are going to try to keep costs down for participants, consequently, there will be no dinner, nor the exquisite gifts you have come to enjoy from our other events. By the end of the day you will go home tired and will probably have more time available to you on track than you wish to use.

Spring Drive - May 6th 2007

4/24/2007

David Press

Join other car enthusiasts on Sunday Morning, May 6, 2007 for a chance to socialize and enjoy your cars! This event is for family and friends and is an excellent opportunity for those who enjoy driving their cars, but aren't normally interested in the performance oriented Driving Schools or Autocross events. We'll meet for a winding drive on scenic roads along the Illinois River in Grundy and LaSalle Counties. The drive will run a little over 2 hours and will be followed by a late brunch at Hank?s in Ottawa, IL. The event will be run as a fun drive with the objective of a leisurely cruise through the area. It is a good idea to bring along one or more navigators to help read the course notes and keep track of the speed limits! There is no registration fee for this event. You do NOT need to be a member of the Audi Club to participate. Participants will be required to sign a liability waiver when they arrive and receive their route packet. Meet at 9:30 AM on Sunday, May 6th, at the Southeast corner of Ridge Road and Minooka Road (Parker Square Strip Mall). Take I-80 west to exit 122 (Mondamin Rd. & Ridge Road). Head South to the intersection of Mondamin Road & Ridge Road. The mall will be just past the stop sign on the left side of the road. The first car will be sent off at about 10:00 AM. The end point is Hank?s Restaurant in Ottawa, (2973 North Route 71 ? 815.433.2540). Their Brunch Buffet is served until 2:00 PM. The brunch is optional and will cost about $12.95 per person (plus tax and tip). For further information regarding this event, please contact Eric Roth at eric.roth@comcast.net or at 847.247.8849.

ACCCC Board of Directors Election - Results

1/4/2007

David Press

Our annual ACCCC elections were held in November. The Chicagoland Chapter has grown in membership and leadership in the last few years. This time around we elected six board members. I would like to congratulate Bill Steineke, Michael Witbrod, Bob Humphrey, Bryan Knight, and Chris Altemeier on their reelections. Please welcome new ACCCC board member Ed Nork as well. I would also like to thank Phil Pace for his contributions to the club. Officer positions will be announced after the first board meeting in January.

One does not need to be on the board of directors to contribute. Perhaps you want to increase your participation without making a big commitment. Maybe you have a favorite ACCCC event and you have some great ideas on how to make it better. Maybe you just want to volunteer to help out where someone is needed. If you want to make the ACCCC the strongest chapter of the Audi Club North America, please email anyone on the current board of directors and they will send you information on how you can get involved with the ACCCC Team.
