Wait list is first come, first served.
Please contact bill@audichicago.org for additional information.
It's that time of year again, The Annual Blackhawk Farms ACCCC Driver's School and Safety Seminar is right around the corner. The event will be held at the beautiful Blackhawk Farms Raceway (www.blackhawkfarms.com) in South Beloit, Illinois on June 26th, 27th, & 28th.
While we try our best to make every year special, we're really looking to make this year's event great in honor of the 15th Anniversary of the Audi Club event at Blackhawk Farms. We have several ideas bouncing around including an "Old School" Audi concourse on Saturday. If there is enough interest / participation by the old school guys we can coordinate a special run group and / or track touring over lunch on Sunday. Details are still being worked out watch your e-mail for updates on the special events!
$100.00 Discount for first time participants and spouses of participants
In an effort to encourage driving enthusiasts who have not yet experienced an ACNA Chicago Chapter drivers school to come out and join the fun, we are offering a $100.00 discount. This will apply to anyone who has not yet participated in a drivers' school or advance drivers' day with the Chicago Chapter, whether you've never stepped onto a track before or are well experienced but have never experienced a drivers' school hosted the Chicago Chapter way.
Also, let's get some more couples out for these! How about a $100.00 discount for the spouse / significant other of anyone registered for the event.
Advanced Driver Day
On Friday the 26th, the Club will be hosting an advanced Driver's day for our advanced drivers and an Instructor Clinic those experienced drivers who aspire to become club instructors. The event will only be open to a limited number of cars and given the inquiries so far we expect to sell out quickly so sign up right away! Experienced Audi members and potential instructors MUST contact Mike Witbrod for eligibility and approval prior to registration.
What is an Advanced Driver Day and who should consider attending?
Advanced drivers are typically Club Instructors or very long time members with significant track experience. These individuals are very familiar with the Club's philosophies and practices - especially when it comes to safety and courtesy on the track. The day will consist of sessions alternating between the Advanced Drivers and the Instructor Clinic participants.
What is an Instructor Clinic and who should consider attending?
Instructor Clinics are for advanced drivers who would like to become more involved in the clubs by training to become Club Instructors. The clinic consists of both classroom and on-track activities. In the classroom, senior instructors will discuss some of the basics about being an instructor. The focus is on safety and some 'how-to' tips about relating to, and teaching, different types of students with different skill sets. Instructors-in-training will learn how to coordinate and critique the student exercises during the driving schools. The group will then be getting into the cars for some one-on-one coaching and student / instructor role-playing.
The Instructor Clinics give the club an opportunity to get to know the potential instructors. The club realizes that it is important to groom the next generation of instructors and part of the 'getting to know you' process is to evaluate skills and help to identify areas of development. Attendance at an Instructor Clinic does not automatically qualify you to be an instructor at future events.
There will be a very limited number of Instructor Clinic spots available this year. Potential participants are encouraged to forward a Driver's Resume or driving history to Mike Witbrod for consideration.
Saturday and Sunday:
For those who have never attended our Driver's Schools I can assure you that you will not be disappointed. You will be surrounded by fellow Audi enthusiasts who share the same passion for driving as you do. Participants will attend a classroom session before heading to the cars for a series of challenging exercises that will help to demonstrate the abilities of your car. After the exercises the students will be paired with our club instructors where they will receive one on one instruction and "on track" coaching for the remainder of the weekend.
Blackhawk is an entire weekend of activity. Here is a quick overview of what you can expect:
Friday Advanced Drivers Day & Instructor Clinic - Details and schedule to be published to participants upon approval.
Friday evening:
All participants should consider Friday evening activities MANDATORY. The Club will not guarantee timely participation in the Saturday activities for anyone arriving on Saturday morning.
Arrival and registration
Car tech check (basic safety inspection)
Drivers meeting - This is where you get all the details for the weekend activities / run groups.
Meet your instructor
Head back to hotel or campsite (you can camp right at the track)
Saturday:
Drivers meeting
Exercises - we do three different driving exercises designed to help students learn basic car dynamics and extreme situation control.
Lapping sessions begin - Instructors on track and students in classroom.
Lunch (Blackhawk has a pretty good concession stand - they do breakfast also)
Lapping all afternoon. This is a one on one in your car with your instructor. He / she will evaluate your driving and work with you at a pace that you are both comfortable with. During these lapping sessions you will only be on the track with others in your run group who have similar experience. The focus is on safety, driving the correct line, proper braking, and learning how the car reacts in different situations.
Banquet - We supply the evening meal and beverages (always a good time).
Sunday:
Drivers meeting
Lapping all day with your run group / instructor. This is a continuation of Saturday so you will be able to continue to work on the skills learned on Saturday and move on to more advanced techniques.
Our instructors will tailor the instruction to your individual needs. If you feel comfortable with the basics the instructor may choose to focus on more advanced driving techniques.
When you are not on the track you will have the opportunity to meet new friends and catch up with old ones. If at any time you have questions just ask one of the event coordinators or any of the instructors. That's what we're here for!
Please note the Friday evening Driver's Meeting and Tech Check are MANDATORY!
Register on-line now or find hardcopy registration - PLEASE read all of the instructions / information on the registration form prior to sending in the application.
2009 Audi Club North America Event Rules
The minimum helmet rating for Audi Club events for 2009 has been set at Snell M2000. Please keep in mind that a higher minimum standard may apply if mandated by another sanctioning body (e.g., some tracks set their own minimum standard, as do some local club chapters). The minimum helmet rating in the absence of any other sanctioning body mandate is M2000 for Audi Club events.
Please note that ALL convertibles must be equipped with an SCCA-approved 4-point roll bar and will be subject to the broomstick/2-inch rule in order to participate in an ACNA Driver's School. Attendees with convertibles MUST contact the eventmaster and inform him/her that you wish to participate with a convertible. Link to ACNA website for the helmet and convertible policy is here.
The broomstick/2-inch rule means that when a broomstick is placed from the windshield header across to the roll bar, there must be 2 inches or more of space between the HELMETED head of the driver and the bottom of the broomstick. Failure to pass this test means you can't drive this vehicle at an ACNA Driver's School. If you fail to notify the eventmaster and just "show up" with a convertible, and subsequently fail the test, you will not receive a refund.
Membership is required for participation in Audi Club driving schools (instructors too). This is not only an issue of member privilege (and member benefit) but also an issue of insurance.
